Core positioning: specifically designed for conical shells / large-and-small-end workpieces, it is the best choice for high-volume, large-taper cone forming; cylindrical shells are not its strong suit. The rolls themselves are conical, with different diameters at the large and small ends, naturally suited to rolling cones from sector-shaped plates—completely different from ordinary cylindrical-roll four-roll / three-roll machines that rely on speed differential to roll cones.

✅ Finished Product Forming Results

  1. Strong Taper Forming Capability
Can process large-taper workpieces; the large-end to small-end diameter ratio can reach up to 1:3, and the cone angle is much larger than that of a conventional four-roll machine with an additional cone-rolling device (four-roll machines generally only ≤1:1.5). Suitable for hoppers, dust-collection cones, bell mouths, and reducing cylinders; the generatrix curvature is uniform, and the large- and small-end arcs are smooth, making it less prone to issues such as one side being fully rolled while the other side has insufficient curvature, or edge misalignment and flanging.

  2. Good plate fit and minimal slippage
The conical roll surface and sector plate fit across the full width, the linear speeds at the large and small ends match naturally, axial slippage of the plate is small, and the weld joint gap on the finished product is uniform; under thick-plate conditions, it can process at the full rated plate thickness, unlike four-roll cone rolling, where the actual rollable thickness is halved.

  3. Controllable Surface Quality
The roll surface is hardened by quenching; after pressure is properly adjusted, indentation is slight; for stainless steel parts, polished rolls can be used to reduce scratches.

  4. Shortcoming: Weak End Pre-bending
    Standard Cone Roll Models
No powerful pre-bending capability at both ends
, the remaining straight edges at both ends of the workpiece are relatively large; the straight sections at both ends of the conical cylinder require subsequent cutting or pre-bending with a press brake. This is the biggest difference from the W12 four-roll machine.

✅ Production efficiency results

  1. High efficiency and good consistency for batch cone production
The sector plate is formed by continuous feed after a single clamping. Once the taper parameters are set, continuous production of the same specification ensures stable dimensions for each finished part, making it suitable for batch orders of environmental protection hoppers and ventilation transition cylinders.

  2. Commissioning threshold
First-piece adjustment of cone angle and roll tilt angle is time-consuming; switching to different taper specifications requires re-adjustment, and frequent model changes reduce capacity; fixed-taper mass production is the most cost-effective.

  3. Operation
: Single-person operation; the CNC model can store taper parameters, allowing direct recall for repeat orders.

⚠️ Production shortcomings (actual workshop pain points)

  1. Poor cylinder rolling capability
: The rolls are conical, so rolling straight cylinders results in poor forming accuracy and average roundness, making it unsuitable for shell pressure vessel orders. Dual-purpose models require changing the straight roll sleeves, which is time-consuming.

  2. Limited specification adaptability
: One set of conical rolls covers a single taper range; extremely large / extremely small tapers require changing roll sleeves, resulting in high accessory costs.

  3. Large remaining straight edge
: Lack of strong pre-bending leaves long straight edges at both ends of the cone, increasing material waste and subsequent cutting operations.

  4. Heavy-duty large workpieces
: Extra-long, extra-large-diameter cones; high frame rigidity requirements; equipment costs rise significantly.

? Model selection comparison (vs. four-roll plate bending machine)

  • Cone roll bending machine
    : Mainly for
high-volume production, large-taper conical shells, hoppers, and reducers
; High cone forming accuracy and strong thick-plate cone rolling capability; not suitable for straight cylinders of pressure vessels, poor pre-bending.

  • W12 Four-Roll Plate Rolling Machine
    : Mainly for
Pressure vessel cylinders, a small number of small-taper cones
; Strong pre-bending, minimal remaining straight edge, good roundness; large-taper cone rolling is difficult, rollable plate thickness decreases, and edge misalignment easily occurs.

? Applicable scenarios

✅ Recommended: environmental dust removal hoppers, fan transitions, chimney flares, sand and gravel silo cone hoppers,
High proportion of cone orders, large taper, stable batch production
. ❌ Not recommended: orders mainly for pressure vessel straight cylinders, with a small number of cones and extremely high requirements for pre-bending at both ends of the shell and weld seam alignment.
