Cone shells, reducers, and conical hoppers are common workpieces in the sheet metal, dust removal, grain silo, and environmental protection tank industries. Many processing plants are accustomed to using ordinary three-roll plate rolling machines with a cone-rolling attachment to barely process cones, but cone rolling with ordinary cylindrical rolls has pain points such as plate slipping, uneven taper, wrinkling at the small end, repeated machine adjustment, and poor finished-product consistency. The production efficiency for large batches of cone shells is relatively low, and the cone roll plate rolling machine is forming equipment specially developed for cone forming.

What distinguishes the cone roll plate rolling machine from conventional cylindrical roll plate rolling machines is that the rolls themselves are tapered, and the roll surface generatrix matches the cone generatrix. During processing, the fan-shaped blank runs against the tapered roll surface, relying on the taper of the cone rolls to create a natural feed difference between the large and small ends: the linear speed at the large end is fast, while the linear speed at the small end is slow. The plate fits tightly against the roll surface, greatly reducing slipping, and there is no need to rely on stops to force friction-based speed limiting. The forming process is smoother and more stable. The cone rolls are generally made of 42CrMo, quenched and tempered, with high roll surface hardness, wear resistance, and scratch resistance. Carbon steel, stainless steel, and manganese plate can all be processed, and thick plates with large tapers can also be formed stably.

Before cone rolling, the blank is first cut into a fan shape according to the unfolded drawing to ensure accurate blank dimensions. During loading, the small end of the fan-shaped plate is pressed against the limit stop so that the plate generatrix remains aligned with the cone roll generatrix. The hydraulically driven upper roll presses down to apply bending pressure, and the cone rolls rotate synchronously to drive reciprocating feed of the plate, gradually bending it into shape over multiple passes. Compared with cone rolling on an ordinary plate rolling machine, the cone roll plate rolling machine does not require frequent tilting of the upper roll or repeated flipping and adjustment. It places lower demands on operator experience, and workpieces in the same batch have uniform taper, straight shell generatrices, uniform weld joint gaps, and less post-correction work.

An ordinary three-roll plate rolling machine can handle cylinders and a small number of cone shells, making it suitable for processing plants with scattered cone shell orders. However, if orders are mainly dust removal cone hoppers, grain silo reducers, and reducing conical shells with large tapers and stable batch sizes, the advantages of the cone roll plate rolling machine are very prominent. Four-roll plate rolling machines inherently have weak cone rolling capability, and when processing large-taper thick-plate cones they are more prone to deformation and out-of-roundness, so they are not suitable for long-term dedicated cone shell work.

The cone roll plate rolling machine is available in mechanical and hydraulic versions. The hydraulic model has sufficient pressure, is easy to adjust, and has obvious advantages for thick plate processing. The equipment supports customization according to plate width, plate thickness, and maximum taper to adapt to different working conditions. Reasonable selection of a cone roll plate rolling machine can solve the industry problems of difficult cone forming, high rework, and low efficiency, making it the preferred equipment for batch cone shell processing.
